Bankaholic.com Sells for 15 Million!

22 year old Johns Wu has sold his blog, Bankaholic.com, to Bankrate.com for $15 million. He is also being paid a handsome bonus to stay on as chief blogger for a year.

I really hope everybody out there who is starting to feel a little discouraged about the success of their blogging efforts can take this as a huge motivator. Blogging still works! :D

Congrats, Johns!

Today Is the Day! Netflix API Goes Public

I am very excited to see the uses that various app, plugin, and widget makers come up with utilizing the Netflix API.  I think it will be even MORE exciting when we find out how to use it to drive traffic and make money.

Currently Netflix doesn’t support affiliate linking to inner pages - AKA “deep linking” - only to their generic sign up page.  Sad.

Maybe this is step one in changing that, though!  FINGERS CROSSED!

Digg Raises $29 Million in Funding, Valued at a Whopping $175 Million!

Digg.com has recently raised a round of venture capital funding valued at about $29 million. Their most recent valuation placed them at $175 million.

Their userbase was 15.7 million visitors this August. That’s a significant increase since 10.1 million a year prior.

I think most of that increase can be attributed to attitudes like that of Orange County, CA singer/songwriter Kina Grannis in this, her song “Gotta Digg” -

IM Has a “Bright Future” According to Yahoo

This, from a recent article on Yahoo Jobs:

Internet Marketer ($53,000) — from Internet Marketing Specialist ($43,000) to Internet Marketing Life Coach — $203,000

Online marketers, also called eMarketers or Internet advertisers, work in a lively business sector that changes every day. One of those changes, according to the BLS 2008-09 Occupational Outlook Handbook, is continued growth. “Advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, and sales manager jobs are highly coveted and will be sought. … In particular, employers will seek those who have the computer skills to conduct advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, and sales activities on the Internet.”

Which has me kinda wondering…what is the actual difference between an internet marketing specialist and an internet marketing “life coach” and how can I hook up a gig as the latter?

I have good advice, people!  I have flipping GEMS to share.  To anyone that has almost a quarter of a million dollars to shell out. :D

Ask.com Click Fraud Class Action Lawsuit

It’s a huge blow for Ask.com’s public image - their advertisers want their money back.

True, the alleged fraud took place over two years ago.  And, true, the plaintiffs are not alleging that Ask ENGAGED in fraud…just that they didn’t take adequate measures to prevent it.  Still, for a company which has never gained the foothold that YPN or (OF COURSE!) Adsense has in the PPC world, it’s not a great day for public relations.
